Report, Thailand Hill Tribes

The pictures of this gallery were taken in the extreme north-western part of Thailand along the mountaineous border of Myanmar (Burma). Here are the Karen, giraffe women, Akha, and Lahu tribes.

The end of this gallery deals with BanPaaKwe, a small village of the Lahu tribe that is settled across the Myanmar border, abandonned by the Thai authorities fearing that Burma’s may come to live there. Those persons need help, only a few locals and the Aliamos organisation help them, if you want to now more and help this village, clik here.

Tourism’s rise lead authorities to ease the building of villages dedicated to the foreigners’visits (a kind of zoo). Families settle there to earn their living easily striking the pose in front of tourists and selling objects manufactured by local craftsmens.

During those reports, I tried to flee as much as possible that kind of places and looked on motorbike for much more authentic spots out of beaten tracks. I travelled through a lot of areas that were not yet spoiled by tourism where I attempted to catch pictures of genuine scenes of the everyday life.
